How to mitigate the economic effects of Covid-19 on your business

As the pandemic continues to spread, and the DOW and the FTSE experience their biggest falls since 1987, we are increasingly facing a significant economic fallout.

This is likely to create great financial consequences for businesses around the globe. Surveys revealed that small to mid-range businesses are struggling for a re-entry plan after pandemic. Sales Xceleration inc conducted a quick pulse survey of sales leaders to see how their sales organizations are functioning through COVID-19, the results confirmed that:

  • 93.4% have been overwhelmingly impacted.
  • 77.14% of the survey respondents were small to mid-sized businesses under $100M in revenue
  • 54.72% do not have a plan-ahead strategy or plan to create one for their post COVID-19 sales efforts. ·
  • 47.17% have either executed sales layoffs/furloughs or plan to in the near term ·
  • 34.9% adjusted quotas or compensation plans for sales reps ·
  • 23.58% have not adjusted compensation plans despite sales being significantly impacted.

Other challenges companies are going through:

  • Loss of revenue
  • Prolonged sales cycle
  • Pipeline standstill
  • Inability to gain facetime with prospects
  • Employee safety
  • Supply chain roadblocks
  • Staffing struggles for essential businesses
  • Creating a viable re-entry strategy

While the most impacted sectors seem to be in travel and manufacturing, all industries should be prepared for the greater implications of disrupted business operations, and the likelihood of a recession.

Review your financial processes

Perhaps the most significant area of your business to review is your financial processes. There are several measures that you can take to reduce risk in your business, during such fiscal uncertainty.

  • This includes a comprehensive review of your cash flow forecasts, to discern areas where cash can be maintained for the short-term.

On June 5th, the president signed the Pay check Protection Program (PPP) which is aimed to assist small – mid ranged companies that has been impacted by COVID-19. The loan is an SBA 7(a) loan which features;

  • Loan amounts up to 2.5% average covered monthly payroll costs, not to exceed $10 million
  • No fees
  • No repayment penalties
  • No business collateral or personal guarantee required
  • Loan forgiveness for eligible payroll, mortgage interest rent and utilities during the covered 24-week period after origination

Work with your employees

To ensure business continuity, productivity and efficiency, it’s crucial to keep an open line of communication with everyone that you are working with.

  • Wherever you can, set up your employees to work from home. In doing so, ensure that they have everything that they need in place to continue to work effectively. With the right hardware, software, and access to information, you can keep some sense of normality intact, essential for business continuity.
  • With the majority of your workforce working from home, ensure that these systems encompass antimalware software, to protect your company’s data.
