Many applications pass first time, but if for any reason you do not meet the criteria we will provide guidance on exactly what additional information is required. SMAS will re-assess your application at no further cost, provided the additional information is provided promptly.

Once approved by SMAS, your certificate should be recognised by other SSIP member schemes (who offer mutual recognition) as adequate proof of meeting the stage 1 core criteria, subject to completing their own verification process. Saving you both time and money.

Why do I need to demonstrate my core stage 1 health and safety competence?
Clients with duties under CDM 2007 must satisfy themselves that the businesses they engage or appoint are competent. This means that they must make reasonable enquiries to check that the organisation or individual has an appropriate health and safety management system in place and is competent to do the relevant work.
How long will the SMAS Worksafe Certificate last?
The certificate will last for 12 months from the date of assessment.
