The TS 16949 is the International Quality Management Standard by and for the Automotive Industry.
Along with the ISO 9001, it defines the quality Management System requirements for the design, development, production and (where relevant) the installation and service of automotive-related products.
The standard came about out of a resolute effort to increase the quality and to assure the integrity of supplies to the industry. It was also designed to reduce the requirement for multiple manufacturer audits.
And it’s worked; since its introduction, there have been important improvements in the quality and delivery of parts, and the overall efficiency of the entire supply chain.
Many of the Industry’s most important quality brands, including BMW, Chrysler, Daimler, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, PSA, Renault and Volkswagen.
Who does it apply to?
The TS16949 is far-reaching in its application, being relevant to any organization within the automotive supply chain where customer-specified parts of production and/ or service are made.
