ISO 50001 Energy Management System offers organisations a system to tackle climate change and conserve resources, through using energy more efficiently. Due to the dependency on fossil fuels, reducing energy consumption is a major challenge. Governments, organisations and corporations around the world must work together in order to move towards a more sustainable future.
Since its publication five years ago, ISO 50001 has gained much importance. In fact, nearly 7 000 organisations were already certified to the standard by the end of 2014.
After five years of existence, the time has come to revise ISO 50001 to ensure it remains a useful tool for all types of businesses and organisations around the world. Experts from nearly 30 countries are meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, to discuss and progress the revision work. The event is hosted by the Swedish Standards Institute (SIS). On the fifth anniversary of ISO 50001, SIS and the Swedish Energy Agency, in cooperation with ISO, are organising an international conference to highlight the value of energy management systems, but also to share experiences and good practice.
