DAU Components Ltd formed in 1977 and specialises in passive electronic components, electronic systems, thermal management and ‘e-mech’ components. Recently, they have made a successful move into supplying LEDs to a leading automotive supplier. DAU have always worked closely with customers to provide parts to their specific requirements, focusing their efforts on a core range of products, which include heat sinks and fans, card readers – smart, magnetic, hybrid and motorised and Smart Cards, buzzers & sounders including micro-speaker and micro-phones, DC power and Audio Connectors, Capacitors, Varistors and Thermistors, Trim Caps, Switches including tactile, rocker and toggle, Connectors – RJ, USB and Mini Dins and much more.
DAU distribute throughout Europe and the Far East, working in conjunction with customers to deliver a personalised relationship, rather than just as another supplier. DAU recognise that holding an ISO accreditation is an essential prerequisite for business today. It is also a prestigious award that demonstrates that, as a company, they are serious in the application of quality management. All of the principal suppliers and factories DAU work with, have the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and ISO 14000 Environmental Management certification as a base-line accreditation. All new or potential suppliers are visited and given a thorough on-the-spot audit very much along the lines of an ISO 9001 external audit.
“The ISO 9001 Quality Management standard has had an immediate impact on our business and certainly within my working day,” Jon Davies, the Technical and Quality Manager tells us. “Like many of us in business, we strive for excellence in everything we do. Having the ISO Quality Management standard means you’re already well on the way to proving it. That’s why we insist that all our suppliers have this standard as a minimum.”
DAU’s detailed quality assurance system automatically issues an official non-conformance report when triggered. This immediately demonstrates to the customer that their issue is being taken seriously, and having a systematic process in place enables DAU to examine and locate the fault in a logical and consistent manner. Jon explains, “This is a very useful evidential business instrument. We understand how busy our clients are and working in conjunction with them has enabled DAU to strengthen their processes and even identified weaknesses in our clients’ processes, therefore eradicating further issues regarding component specifications.”
Jon explains, “In this business, we need to be constantly competitive and ahead of the game. The ISO 9001 Quality Management standard helps us to constantly review what we do and is far removed from the illusion of just another form filling exercise. ISO 9001 Quality Management ensures DAU focuses on systems assisting in the day to day activity so we deliver to our clients every time.”
Jon concludes by saying, “IMSM is a highly experienced professional consultancy, delivering consistent ISO standards and other business services. They have added value to DAU Components by highlighting where we had exceptional business strengths, which differentiates ourselves from our competitors. DAU receive an annual ISO 9001 Quality Management System independent audit, which is very important to the business as we grow and move forward. The annual audit ensures we remain on track and that continuous improvement activity is tracked and in-line with developing the business.”
